Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement/ SECOND RETURN of JESUS CHRIST; by wecrymerc

Yom Kippur: The DAY of ATONEMENT

The JUBILEE YEAR: The Jubilee (Hebrew Yov-el יובל) year is the year at the end of seven cycles of Sabbatical years (Hebrew Shmita), and according to Biblical regulations had a special impact on the ownership and management of land in the territory of the kingdoms of Israel and of Judah; there is some debate whether it was the 49th year (the last year of seven sabbatical cycles, referred to as the Sabbath's Sabbath), or whether it was the following 50th year.

Yom Kippur (Hebrew: יוֹם כִּפּוּר or יום הכיפורים), Also known as Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year for the Jews. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jews traditionally observe this holy day with a 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services. Yom Kippur completes the annual period known in Judaism as the High Holy Days (or sometimes "the Days of Awe")

Most often associated with the “DAY OF THE LORD”

JESUS SECOND RETURN to EARTH.

Yesterday through my study, I found what I believe was some of the most “ENDEARING” evidence that JESUS HIMSELF spoke about THE DAY OF ATONEMENT And the JUBILEE YEAR

JESUS CHRIST- is the Atonement for ALL of mankind.

JESUS CHRIST- was and is the JUBILEE, He is the ONE sent to “set the captives free”, bring about the

ATONEMENT, BE the High Priest, prophet, healer etc. Though we are “SET FREE” by HIM now SPIRITUALLY, One day we will be “SET FREE” by being UNITED in ONE KINGDOM. The New Jerusalem.

Just a reminder: JESUS CHRIST  fulfilled “ALL” of the SPRING FEAST.

During the SECOND RETURN of CHRIST, HE will surwardly fulfill “ALL” of the FALL FEAST.
For HE will HONOR HIS WORD and the WORD of The FATHER.

This is what the HOLY SPIRIT revealed to me yesterday, Oct, 13, 2011
Beginning in Luke 4: 18, Jesus HIMSELF was PROCLAIMING and PROPHESYING that HE had come to FULFILL the “THE JUBILEE”. Now remember Jubilee is only done a 49 or 50 year cycle, and it is also kept in conjunction with the “DAY OF ATONEMENT”

And SINCE JUBILEE is a YEAR long, there is really no way to DETERMINE which DAY would be the EXACT day JESUS would RETURN. But according to scripture we can KNOW the season.

So now take a closer look at LUKE 4: 16-24  and LEV 25: 8 - 10

LUKE 4: 16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
LUKE 4: 18 The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Luke 4: 21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
Luke 4: 24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.

LEV 25: 8-10
Lev 25: 8  And thou shalt number seven sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years.
Lev 25: 9 Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth [day] of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.
Lev 25: 10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout [all] the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.

A couple of things I found interesting about the verses in LUKE 4:

1. When JESUS proclaimed this in the synagogue, The “Passover” had not even occurred yet. JESUS was basically PROPHESYING about HIMSELF, PROCLAIMING that HE would be “THE ANOINTED ONE and the JUBILEE”.

The LONG awaited MESSIAH and PROPHET. Those in the synagogue knew exactly what he was proclaiming, because they KNEW the Law and Prophets, and that is why they became offended and outraged.

2. Since JESUS proclaimed that HE would FULFILL this PROPHETIC "EVENT" known as “THE DAY OF ATONEMENT” and “THE YEAR of JUBILEE” it is almost certain that HE would FULFILL it according to the FATHER'S time table.

HE will FULFILL the FINAL FEAST, according to the PROPHETIC TIME TABLE that the FATHER has Already set in motion, to GLORIFY HIS NAME.

JESUS CHRIST, The Return of CHRIST, the SECOND COMING of CHRIST, most likely would  be on a JUBILEE YEAR.

HE is the author and finisher of our FAITH, and HE never LIES.
HE will continue to FULFILL HIS WORD and the FATHER’S WORD to us.

Will JESUS return on YOM KIPPUR, the DAY OF ATONEMENT, associated with the YEAR of JUBLIEE?

Unfortuniately, it appears that the JEWS lost count of the YEAR of JUBILEE, and only a few have tried to suceed at "calculating' this DATE".. Some say that it is  2017 or 2018. That would put us RIGHT now on the EDGE of the Great Tribulation..

Honestly, the question REALLY isn't WHEN is HE going to return:

But......

Are you READY for the DAY OF HIS RETURN??

Amen.

Personal Testimony concerning the FALL FEAST: wecrymercy

The FEASTS OF THE LORD:  “FALL FEASTS”

For years I have been burdened in my heart that PERHAPS the BODY of CHRIST should acknowledge and participate in these FALL FEASTS. But I have sought to IGNORE that burden..  I BELIEVE I was WRONG to think that way and have possibly been QUENCHING the SPIRIT of the LORD by my own ignorance..

It isn't about LAW, but about participating in a KINGDOM. It is also about BELIEVING in the 2nd RETURN of JESUS CHRIST.

These are GOD’S HOLY/ set apart  FEASTS, and they are an OFFERING to HIS BODY to participate in HIS HOLY DESIRE of REPENTANCE, RESTORATION and ATONEMENT..

After a week of SERIOUS study on this subject of the FALL FEASTS, I am going to share some conclusions that have come to from my personal study of the FEASTS of the LORD.

AT this time in my life, I personally would not seek to IMPOSE upon others the observation of the FEASTS. For without the HEART involved in this TYPE of SERVICE to the LORD, it would become LIP service, and religious rhetoric. I do not believe the LORD DESIRES that, but rather that we participate from a REJOICING and a WORSHIPFUL heart.

I DON’T consider them a MANDATE for the BODY of CHRIST, but rather an INVITATION and a CALL, to SHARE together as an “ASSEMBLY” in the prophetic time table of GOD, and the FRUITS of the SPIRIT as an “ASSEMBLY”, together in repentance, restoration and RENEWAL,
IE, NEW YEAR, NEW MOON, NEW WINE.

A. In my opinion: they are an INVITATION from the LORD, to be SET-APART from the WORLD, as though what is TO COME has already COME.
IE the Day of the Lord and the millennium period.

B. They promote UNITY, Like mindedness, as an ASSEMBLY, in REPENTANCE and RESTORATION.

C. They are a WITNESS to the WORLD and each other, that our FAITH is standing on HOLY GROUND, an example that we TRULY do believe there is a “DAY OF THE LORD” and a millennium period in which CHRIST will REIGN as KING OF KINGS and LORD of LORDS.

  1. FEAST of TRUMPETS: a trumpet is blown sounded for FOURTY DAYS as a warning that the days of judgment and of atonement are approaching.  A Call for REPENTANCE, before these perilous times.
  2. The DAY OF ATONEMENT: The LAST DAY available for REPENTANCE. The ATONEMENT is about to be applied to ALL those that are IN HIM. Considered the LAST DAY of the “DAY OF THE LORD”.
  3. The FEAST of TABERNACLES:  A time of CELEBRATION for all those in the KINGDOM of GOD. As though we are living in the MILLENNIUM.

HERE are few of the HONEST Questions I had to ask myself during this study:

WHY am I opposing the observance of the FALL FEASTS?
Am I opposed to the “DAY OF THE LORD”?
Do I believe there is a "DAY OF THE LORD"?
Am I opposed to “UNITY”?
Am I opposed to “REPENTANCE”?
Am I opposed to WHAT MY FATHER Is teaching and doing?

LISTED REASONS for OBSERVANCE OF THE FALL FEAST:

  1. They BELONG to the LORD, and I believe they are offered as a PROPHETIC MESSAGE to the BODY of CHRIST.
  2. HE is “OUR” PASSOVER LAMB, not only for the JEWS, We will be “Gathered” together at the DAY OF THE LORD.
  3. IT is considered an ASSEMBLY/ gathering/ UNITY, ONE mindedness before the LORD, “ALL” the BODY.
(note: we are commanded not to forsake the assembly. (joel 2: 16, Heb 19:25)
  1. A day of reflection for known sin and a day of revealing of sin before HIM.
  2. The FEASTS promote HUMILITY before GOD and the BODY of CHRIST.
  3. Because the FATHER in HEAVEN has offered this as a DAY of VISITATION, as a DAY that HE promises to hear our prayers and supplications.
  4. It appears WE as the Body of Christ will be included in them, at the day of the LORD.
  5. They are also a CELEBRATION: from the PROSPECTIVE of what is ALREADY DONE, by the HIGH PRIEST:  JESUS CHRIST as the SACRIFICE, and WHAT Is to COME,  the DAY of the LORD, and the MILLI UM KINGDOM, the “REST” that the FATHER will bring to HIS PEOPLE at the END OF TIME.

For “the BODY of CHRIST” (uh that would be me)

Each of these 3 FEAST have relevance to the End TIME event known as “THE DAY OF THE LORD” and the MESSIANIC KINGDOM ruled by our LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.

SO now that I have CONCLUDED these things. HOW do I make them a part of my PERSONAL walk?

Right now, I have NO idea how I find a BODY OF BELIEVERS to UNITE on this.
As an individual, certainly I can take any day to REPENT, Cry out to the LORD. But this is a CALLING to an ASSEMBLY of people, for the PURPOSE of UNITY and CELEBRATION to what is to come.

Now that the LORD has opened my eyes to the PURPOSE and FUNCTION of these FEAST. I lay it at HIS FEET, and will TRUST that my WILLINGNESS to participate is enough for HIM to OPEN doors of opportunity in the FUTURE for me to be able to UNITE with others of LIKE-MINDEDNESS.

Note: I have not been influenced by any other means other than PRAYER, FASTING and STUDYING.
TODAY beings the "FEAST OF TABERNACLES"  a CELEBRATION, not mourning,  and I will REJOICE IN SPIRIT, though PHYSICALLY I will not be able to attend.with the BODY.  BUT, NEXT YEAR, hopefully I will be able to tell a different story.. Instead of marking our HOLIDAYS the way we use to, we will set aside these days as HOLY.

Now I suppose it will be interesting to How many will cast me out from their fellowship.. : (

Here are a couple of  THOUGHTS:
Could this be some of the FIRST STEPS we make at the "COMING OUT OF BABYLON"???
Do you believe there is a "DAY OF THE LORD"
Do you believe there is a "TIME OF the MILLENNIUM. KINGDOM"?
Amen and Amen.

The FEAST of TRUMPETS: 101 by lance

DISCLAIMER

Following is information regarding the fall feasts of God. Everything presented comes from my study of these feasts and represents my best understanding.
Much of what appears comes from Jewish tradition and must therefore be approached with caution. I am also attempting to find correlations between the events of the feasts and the future events they are understood to depict. Since scripture is not always clear in drawing the lines between these things I am at times dependant upon the discernment the Lord has placed within me and while God is infallible, I am most certainly NOT!

Please consider the following with an open heart, but take these things before the Lord that He might illuminate any error I might inadvertently insert into this study.

I thank you in advance for the investment of your time in the consideration of these things…… Lance

THE FALL FEASTS OF THE LORD

Just as the four spring feasts join together to tell the story of Christ’s first coming, so to do the fall feasts tell the story of Christ’s second coming and its lasting impact on humanity. Each feast forms a ‘chapter’ of the story. Each has a tale of its very own to tell, but the whole story cannot be understood without knowing what rests within all of the ‘chapters’.

AN OVERVIEW OF THE FALL FEASTS

The first of the fall feasts is Rosh HaShanah, also known as the feast of trumpets. Rosh HaShanah tells the story of God’s final call to repentance, His judgment and wrath upon humanity, the resurrection and rapture of His people, the wedding of Christ to His bride and His work to effect reconciliation with a remnant of national Israel.

I understand the future events Rosh HaShanan depicts to span a period of time from before the initiation of the day of the Lord, to a point immediately prior to the reconciliation of God and the remnant of national Israel.

The second feast is Yom Kippur, also known as the day of atonement. This feast focuses on God’s atoning work in the redemption of His children. It brings the work of Jesus on the cross and the shedding of His precious blood to its pinnacle of fulfillment and encompasses God’s reconciliation with both Jew and gentile in the finished work of salvation. It also sees the reconciled remnant of national Israel take their place in the body of believers. This feast is also associated with the physical return of Jesus to the earth near the end of the future tribulation period.

One sobering aspect of Yom Kippur comes from the tradition that this day represents the final opportunity for those in rebellion against God to repent. At the conclusion of this solemn day, the gates of heaven are understood to be closed.

I understand the future events associated with Yom Kippur to span the approximate period of time from the remnant survivors of national Israel accepting Jesus as Messiah until the resurrection of the martyrs seen in Revelation 20:6.

The third fall feast is Sukkot, also known as the feast of tabernacles. This feast depicts the joyous life and blessing found in the Messianic kingdom of Christ.

I understand the future events associated with the feast of tabernacles to extend from the inception of the Messianic kingdom until an undefined future time; quite probably into the depths of eternity itself.

During the remainder of this paper we will focus on some of the truths that might be gleaned from the first of the fall feasts, Rosh HaShanan / Trumpets.

THE FEAST OF TRUMPETS / ROSH HASHANA

Major Themes of the feast:

Rosh HaShana has several stories to tell and each of these takes the form of a ‘theme’ that is part of the overall tapestry of the feast. The major themes of Rosh HaShana are:

● Teshuvah (Repentance)
● Rosh HaShana (New Year, Birthday of creation)
● Yom Teruah (Day of the Awakening Blast / Feast of Trumpets)
● Yom HaDin (the Day of Judgment, the day of the Lord, the days of awe)
● HaMelech (The Coronation of Messiah)
● The time of Jacob’s trouble (the birthpangs of the Messiah)
● The opening of the Gates (of heaven)
● Kiddushin/Nesu’in (The wedding ceremony)
● Natzal (The rapture / resurrection of the dead)
● The last trump (shofar, rams horn trumpet)
● Yom Hakeseh (the hidden day, day of hiding)

We will only consider a few of these, and those only briefly. To do otherwise would require more wisdom and virtual ink than I currently possess… J

Teshuvah / Repentance:

The feast of trumpets officially begins on Tishrei 1 and lasts for 10 days. However, in one respect the feast actually begins 30-days earlier on Elul 1 as this is the beginning of the season of Teshuvah, which means ‘to return or repent’.

During Teshuvah, God is seen to be calling humanity to repentance and His children to return and/or draw near to Him. The season of teshuvah/repentance lasts for 40-days and during this time a trumpet is blown each morning as a call to repentance and a warning of the approaching ‘day of judgment’. Since the month of Elul is only 30 days in length, and the season of Teshuvah is 40-days, we understand that the call to return/repent also extends throughout the entire feast of trumpets. Since the feast is understood to typologically correlate to the day of judgment/day of the Lord, we can readily see the great mercy of God in action as He not only is seen to call people to repent before the great day of His wrath, but even while that wrath is being poured out. Scripture supports this understanding in multiple passages such as.

Rev 9:20a The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands,…. (also Rev 9:21, 16 9 & 11, the repentance of national Israel)

The season of Teshuvah/repentance is meant as a call to all people and on each day, except for the 30th day of Elul, immediately before the start of the feast, a trumpet is blown to warn the people to turn back to God. The call to the non-believer is for repentance, while the call to the believer is to search his/her life, repent of rebellion and draw near to the Lord while there is yet time and hope.

Though the season of repentance as it is enacted in this feast is not clearly shown in scripture, it is consistent with the nature of God who typically seeks to warn people of His impending wrath and judgment (Ezek 18:21-23, 30-32, Zeph 2:1-3, 33:1-7, 2 Pet 3:9).

Yom HaKeseh, The Hidden Day:

Another theme of the feast of trumpets is that of Yom HaKeseh, ‘The hidden day’, or ‘the day of hiding’. This theme is captured in scripture in two ways. First, it is seen to speak of the season of Christ’s return on a ‘hidden day’.

Mat 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

Second it speaks of the Lord’s protection / hiding of His children during the time of trouble that is to come.

Ps 27:5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; ….

Zech 14:4-7 In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives…. and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle…. You will flee by the valley of My mountains, for the valley of the mountains will reach to Azel;…. In that day there will be no light; the luminaries will dwindle…. For it will be a unique day which is known to the LORD, neither day nor night, but it will come about that at evening time there will be light.

Isa 26:20-21 Come, my people, enter into your rooms And close your doors behind you; Hide for a little while Until indignation runs its course. For behold, the LORD is about to come out from His place To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity;

The theme of ‘the hidden day’ is vividly captured in the feast on the 30th day of the season of Teshuvah. Recall that during the 40-days of Teshuvah a trumpet is blown each day as a warning of the approaching day of judgment/day of the Lord, EXCEPT for the 30th day which immediately precedes the feast. On this day there is SILENCE. Thus, in the typological depiction of the feast we see that immediately before the judgment and wrath of God is poured out upon humanity there is a space of silence, and scripture is faithful to capture this truth as well.

Rev 8:1 When the Lamb broke the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

Rosh HaShana, The Head of the Year:

Contained within the season of repentance is Rosh HaShana which is the Jewish New Year of the civil calendar. Jewish tradition claims this was the day the earth was created because the first line of the book of Genesis which states, “in the beginning” can be rearranged in the Hebrew to read, “Aleph b’Tishrei”, or “on the first of Tishrei”.

Is this assertion true? I have no idea, but it is an interesting point of curiosity and makes a wonderful ‘conversation piece’… J

Yom Teruah, The Awakening Blast, Trumpets

Throughout the season of Teshuvah the blast of trumpets is seen as a central feature of the feast. Yet the trumpet blast plays another role in this feast as well. The Hebrew word ‘teruah’ may be translated as a loud ‘blast (as from a trumpet), or shout’.

Ps 89:15 How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound (Teruah)!.... [Parenthis added]

The feast and traditions focus our attention to a specific type of trumpet blast; to the blast of the ‘shofar’, or ram’s horn. The shofar is first seen in connection with God’s revelation of Himself on Mt. Sinai.

Ex 19:16 So it came about on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud upon the mountain and a very loud trumpet (shofar) sound, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. [Parenthis added]

The shofar is blown on many of scripture’s most solemn occasions. For example it is blown to call the people to the ‘shema’ of God and it is blown to announce the time of Jubilee and the freedom from slavery it brought with it (Lev 25:9-10).

According to tradition the shofar was not placed in this position of prominence by accident but to remind the people of God of the faith that is necessary to please Him and enter into His presence. For it is a constant reminder of the faith seen in the actions of Abraham in the ‘sacrifice’ of his son Isaac. Specifically, it is a picture of the faithfulness of God as He provided an alternative sacrifice in the form of a ram, caught by his horns (Gen 22:1-19).

For this reason the ram’s horn (shofar) became the instrument of choice to usher in solemn occasions and to call the people to war. Each of the horns of this ram, the left and the right, came to be equated with one of the feasts of the Lord.

The left horn came to be known as ‘the first trump’ and is equated with the feast of Pentecost. It is also equated with the first coming of Messiah, a truth only captured by those who acknowledge that Jesus is the Messiah. The right horn is known as the ‘last trump’ and is equated with the feast of Trumpets. It is also equated with the second coming of Messiah by those who acknowledge Jesus.

It is to the feast of Trumpets and its typological equivalent found in the day of the Lord that Paul was referring to when he wrote the following words regarding the Messiah’s return.

1 Cor 15:51-52 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

In this passage, Paul took the imagery of ‘the last trump’ directly from the Jewish traditions he was so very familiar with. Unfortunately, due to our lack of familiarity with those traditions modern students seek to ascribe all sorts of meanings to what Paul no doubt saw as a straightforward reference that could hardly be misunderstood.

Also, as intimated by Paul, it was a strongly held Jewish tradition that the coming of Messiah and the resurrection of the dead would be heralded by a trumpet blast and/or shout. Perhaps nowhere in scripture is this truth more clearly revealed than the revelatory teaching of Paul found in the following passage.

1 Thes 4:16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

The Time of Jacob’s Trouble, Birthpangs of the Messiah:

The time of Jacob’s trouble is directly mentioned only once in scripture and its imagery leaves little doubt that it is intimately connected to the end-time day of the Lord.

Jer 30:4-7 Now these are the words which the LORD spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah: "For thus says the LORD, ' I have heard a sound of terror, Of dread, and there is no peace. 'Ask now, and see If a male can give birth. Why do I see every man With his hands on his loins, as a woman in childbirth? And why have all faces turned pale? 'Alas! for that day is great, There is none like it; And it is the time of Jacob's distress, But he will be saved from it.

Many other passages utilize this same imagery and expand upon its foundations to help form a vivid picture of the birth pains that precede Messiah’s return to earth and of God’s wrath and judgment during this time.

Isa 13:6-12 Wail, for the day of the LORD is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty…. Terror will seize them, pain and anguish will grip them; they will writhe like a woman in labor…. See, the day of the LORD is coming--a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger--… The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light…. I will make man scarcer than pure gold, more rare than the gold of Ophir.

1 Thes 5:1-3 Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

The death and destruction during that time will be so great that scripture proclaims only one-third of the children of Israel will survive.

Zech 13:8-9 In the whole land," declares the LORD, "two-thirds will be struck down and perish; yet one-third will be left in it. This third I will bring into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say, 'They are my people,' and they will say, 'The LORD is our God.'"

This ‘third’ however, will stand ready to recognize their Messiah, serve their God and join the great throng of the faithful who stand ready to embrace them…..

But the telling of that part of the story must wait until we consider Yom Kippur, the day of atonement.

Thank you for your time and consideration of these things,

Your brother in Christ……. Lance

CONCERNING THE FEAST OF THE LORD

If I may, PLEASE.  CONCERNING "KEEPING" the FEAST.

AFTER SPENDING TWO DAYS studying this subject I STILL have not come to any REAL and TRUTHFUL conclusions:. ALL I truly want is the TRUTH, and right now.. I honesty can not say that I KNOW THE TRUTH on this matter. I even SPENT the "DAY" OBSERVING  the "DAY OF ATONEMENT".as best I could understand..

Which I must say had REAL meaning to me personally.

HOWEVER, I am NOT SEEKING to be DOGMATIC on the matter of "KEEPING THE FEAST" as the BODY of CHRIST..

The LAST thing I wish to do is CAUSE BONDAGE for myself or for the BODY OF CHRIST.

AS far as OBSERVING THE FEAST OF THE LORD, personally I have NOT come to any REAL conclusions on the matter. I am SEEKING to discover if they are IMPORTANT To KEEP.AS the BODY OF CHRIST.

I spent a GREAT DEAL of time over the last TWO days studying this subject, only to find myself.. going back and forth between YES?? and NO?? or MAYBE. I simply may not be smart enough to understand. UNLESS the LORD gives understanding through the SPIRIT, it will just become another RELIGIOUS ACT of BONDAGE.

What I do believe I know is:

1. . I do STILL believe these FEAST BELONG to the LORD and they are PROPHETIC in NATURE.

2. That if they are NOT KEPT from a worshipful heart, will only lead to bondage and religion.
3. TO KEEP or NOT KEEP these feast, in my opinion, AT THIS TIME, is a personal matter between an INDIVIDUAL and the LORD.

OUR WALK is a PERSONAL WALK, intimate walk with the LORD, and most of all WE should do AS HE CALLS.

FOR me at least, the scriptures certainly seem to neither "command" that they be KEPT nor does it condemn those that wish to join in.

I truly wish I had someone to STUDY this subject with.. : (

_________________________________________________________________________________
HERE are The PROS and CONS:

A couple of EXAMPLES for the FEAST: That the FEAST were kept after the RESURRECTION;

PROS:

Paul, a Roman, Jew, pharisee  etc. (called to the GENTILES)

FOR whatever reason???, decided it was important to GO to JERUSALEM to keep the "DAY OF PENTECOST"

KJV
ACTS 18: 21, Felt a NEED to keep the FEAST,  then in ACTS 20: 16 it tells us WHICH DAY he was observing.

ACTS 18: 21 But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.

AND

In matthew  24: 20  SPEAKING of END TIMES or PERHAPS even DURING the time of a PAST abomination.  PRAYER was requested that "our flight be not in winter, NEITHER ON THE SABBATH DAY.

My Question is: Why the SABBATH and why would PAUL feel a need to KEEP A FEAST?

We know JESUS went to a FEAST HIMSELF, but that was BEFORE HIS RESURRECTION.

Then we OBVIOUSLY have ACTS 21: 25

AS touching the GENTILES which believe, we have written and CONCLUDED that they obverse no such thing,

SAVE ONLY that they KEEP themselves from

1. Things offered to idols
2. from blood
3. from strangled animals
4. from fornication.

I must confess that it SEEMS that a CHILD of GOD did have some COMMANDS to follow, but it appears according to his or her GROWTH in the BODY that would determine their walk/steps of obedience???

CONS: Things that are against

Colossians 2:16-17 :

"Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration, or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ."

Galatians 4:10-11 :
"You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you."

SO what is the ANSWER to this AGE OLD QUESTION I do not KNOW.  But I am open to anyone EMAILING ME and giving me HELPS on the matter..
..

PERSONALLY, I refuse to DIVIDE myself from anyone that DESIRES to "KEEP the FEAST", NOR would I divide myself from anyone that DOES NOT feel a need to keep them.

So UNTIL the LORD grants me with UNDERSTANDING.. I shall just simply continue my DISCOVERY and RESEARCH on the matter of the FEAST.

Please FORGIVE ME for any confusion I may have caused to the BODY.

AMEN.

FEAST of the LORD

I do believe the FINAL FULFILLMENT of END-TIMES will be surrounded by the FEAST OF THE LORD:

LEVITICUS 23: 4 These are the FEAST of the LORD!!!!!!

You will have to decide:

Are they a in the SPIRIT OF BONDAGE?
or
The SPIRIT OF LIBERTY?

SEPT 28: 30 Feast of Trumpets

Oct 7th is YOM KIPPUR, DAY of ATONEMENT.

Oct 12th -19  Feast of Tabernacles

So what can we learn about END TIMES based on the FEAST?

Yom Kippur: Also known as the "Day of Atonement" and considered the most sacred day in the Jewish calendar by observant Jews.  In a manner similar to Christians and church attendance for Easter, even many Jewish people who are not deeply religious will find their way to Temple on this very special day.

DAY OF ATONEMENT:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yom_Kippur

Yom Kippur (Hebrew: יוֹם כִּפּוּר or יום הכיפורים‎, IPA: [ˈjom kiˈpur]), Also known as Day of Atonement, is the holiest and most solemn day of the year for the Jews. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jews traditionally observe this holy day with a 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services. Yom Kippur completes the annual period known in Judaism as the High Holy Days or Yamim Nora'im ("Days of Awe").

JERUSALEM, Israel - Thursday marks Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year. It also holds special significance for Christians.
Jews in Israel and around the world are preparing for this holy day, also known as the Day of Atonement.
The way Jews observe Yom Kippur here in Israel is unlike any other nation on earth. By law, television and radio broadcasts are forbidden. The airports are shut down. There's no public transportation. Businesses are closed and virtually no one drives a car.
"When the Day of Atonement comes the atmosphere in Jerusalem changes completely," said Joseph Shulam, founder of Netivyah Ministries.
"Everything is extremely somber and quiet. There is no transportation. Nothing is open and the synagogues are full. People are truly trying to understand their sins," he said.
Yom Kippur is the climax of the 10 Days of Awe, which began with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Yom Kippur is marked by repentance and confession.
"I think we would do well to do what the Jewish people do on that day, to take a day aside to just search our hearts before God and let the Holy Spirit really look inside us and not doing our own introspection but being open to His inspection," said Rick Ridings with Nations Standing with Israel.
The Old Testament documents how the High Priest entered the Holy of Holies and offered a sacrifice for the sins of the people for the year. The book of Leviticus says ". on this day atonement will be made for you, to cleanse you." (Leviticus 16:30)
Many Christians see a wonderful picture of Jesus on this day and other feasts of the Lord celebrated in the Old Testament.
In the New Testament, the book of Hebrews says, "He entered the most holy place once for all by His own blood, having obtained eternal redemption." (Hebrews 9:12)
"They are all pictures of Jesus, Yeshua, in an amazing way and of course a very powerful picture of atonement is that He Himself is our atonement," Ridings said.

The DAY OF ATONEMENT:

The Day of Atonement is a day of fasting and self denial.  Atonement means covering which Jesus provided when He shed His blood on the cross as a covering for sin.  His blood is the atonement for sin, so we will not be condemned at the Judgment Seat.

Synonyms for the Day of Atonement are the Day of Judgment, the Day of Redemption, the Day of the Lord and the Day of Reckoning.
The Day of Atonement follows the day of Trumpets. The fulfillment of the festival of Ingathering follows the sounding of the Last Trumpet.

Plagues during BABYLONIAN PERIOD.

Just to back track for a moment. I did find a mention of PLAGUES during the BABYLONIAN period. However, it is mentioned as a punishment for those that DID NOT submit to the KING of BABYLON:

JEREMIAH 27: 13 Why will you die, you and your people, by the sword, famine and pestilence, as the LORD has spoken to that nation which will not serve the king of Babylon? 14“So do not listen to the words of the prophets who speak to you, saying, ‘You will not serve the king of Babylon,’ for they prophesy a lie to you; 15for I have not sent them,” declares the LORD, “but they prophesy falsely in My name, in order that I may drive you out and that you may perish, you and the prophets who prophesy to you.”

What I have always found interesting is that AT THAT TIME, Israel was to STAY in BABYLON and serve the king, build houses and till the ground.

JEREMIAH 29: 5  Build ye houses, and dwell [in them]; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;
6. Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.

However in the END TIME BABYLON we are command to COME OUT OF HER:

REV 18:  4, 5
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

Continuing comparing PROPHECY to PROCHECY: wecrymercy

Today we will see if parts of ISAIAH 13 and 14 and see if it has any correlations to REVELATIONS:

Is 13: 4  The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts mustereth the host of the battle.

Is 13: 6 They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, [even] the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.

13: 9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

13: 10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

13: 15 Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined [unto them] shall fall by the sword.

Is 13: 17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and [as for] gold, they shall not delight in it.

13: 18 Their] bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.

13: 19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

I highlighted some important details in these above scriptures that may be important to discuss.

Isaiah is prophesying the "DOOM of BABYLON". According to verse 17 the LORD is sending the MEDES against them. That did happen in Isaiah’s day

Allow me to include the notes in my bible:

13: 6-18 Isaiah’s reference to the “Day of the LORD” is both immediate and scatological. The destruction that he has immediately in view is the fall of Babylon in 539 BC. But he also saw the ultimate fall of “BABYLON” in the last days REV 14:18) The Medes are named in advance in verse 17 (as Cyrus in chs 44, 45) since they rose to power before the Persians.

It is no doubt difficult to discover which part of these prophecies are determine for the END TIME BABYLON and the BABYLON Empire of the OLD TESTAMENT. However, there are similarities in the DESTRUCTION, Especially during the TRUMPETS and Vials

  1. Is 13: 4  the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts mustereth the host of the battle
REV 20: 14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him [are] called, and chosen, and faithful.

  1. Is 13: 9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh
The reference to “the day of the LORD”

  1. Is 13: 10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

REV 6: 12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
REV 6: 13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
REV 8: 12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.

  1. Is 13: 15 Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined [unto them] shall fall by the sword.
(note I only use this verse to establish that anyone that is JOINED with them shall also fall by the sword.)

  1. Is 13: 19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

REV 16: 19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.

The question now becomes, has this PROPHECY already happen to its fulfillment or is ISAIAH also speaking of a  NEAR FAR prophecy, a future END TIME EVENT of the DESTRUCTION of BABYLON.

________________________________________________________________________

LET US NOW EXAMINE ISAIAH 14

ISAIAH 14: 3 And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve,

14: 4 That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!

NOTE: IS 14: 4  the GOLDEN CITY that ceased. Does REVELATIONS also speak of a Future CITY of BABYLON, filled with wealth and merchandise, and how it is the oppressor?

JUST a HINT HERE:  IF you have an EMPIRE, YOU HAVE A KING, IF you have an EMPIRE, you also have a CENTRAL LOCATION of ECONOMICS and POWER.

REV 18; 3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

REV 18: 16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!

REV 18: 17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

ISAIAH 14: 5 The LORD hath broken the staff of the wicked, [and] the sceptre of the rulers.

14: 7 The whole earth is at rest, [and] is quiet: they break forth into singing.

VERY INTERESTING correlation here between Lucifer and  OLD BABYLONIAN EMPIRE and the END TIME BABYLON EMPIRE:

14: 9 Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet [thee] at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, [even] all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

14: 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

14: 13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Admonishment: continuing reading on your own.

14:22 For I will rise up against them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the LORD.

14: 24 The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, [so] shall it stand:

14: 27 For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul [it]? and his hand [is] stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

The LORD and HIS WORD IS CERTAIN AMEN!!!

LET us STAND FIRM and HOLD to the FAITH that OUR LORD is LORD OF LORDS and KING OF KINGS
YES, for a time BABYLON will succeed for it is PURPOSED in the HEART of the LORD, but only to find its DOOM in the end.

THE LORD will RISE up against them in the end, and cut them off, bring complete desolation and destruction to BABYLON.

JESUS CHRIST WILL BE KING and LORD forever and ever. AMEN.

The Three Harbingers of Doom

The Three Harbingers of DOOM: by Michael Boldea Jr.

I spent a good thirty minutes trying to find a title that was less fatalistic than ‘the three harbingers of doom’ but no other title would suffice. I assure you the title of this post is not meant to elicit a fearful response, but by the same token it is not exaggerated by any means. Throughout history we have seen these three harbingers of doom, destruction, catastrophe and devastation, and it would be foolish for us as wise children of God to dismiss them or pretend they don’t exist just so we won’t have to deal with the issue. If you sweep enough dust under a rug, eventually it becomes a hillock, and sooner or later you either remove the dust from under the rug, or do away with the rug altogether and plant an azalea bush in the middle of your living room. Although logically and reasonably it would be to our benefit to talk about the pink elephant in the room, many a preacher and pastor still refuse to do it because to admit that for years now we have seen these selfsame harbingers within our own nation, is to admit that tragedy and calamity are not far behind. And who wants to hear that nowadays?
As the Spanish philosopher George Santayana once said, ‘those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.’ I would go a step further and say that the only people who cannot learn from history are the stubborn, the foolhardy, and those unfortunate souls who feel as though they already know everything and as such have nothing left to learn.
History is a great teacher in what to do as a nation, as well as what not to do as a nation, and so today we will journey through history, more specifically the history of the nation of Israel and see the warning signs that calamity was near, and the magnitude of the calamity once it arrived.
Israel was a nation accustomed to winning battles, or armed conflicts. They went to war with the expectation of being victorious, of conquering their enemy whether their enemy outnumbered them or not. They had become so accustomed to winning battles, they had become so accustomed to having the Lord by their side and obtaining victory, that when the Philistines put themselves in battle array against Israel, it was neither frightening, surprising, nor a reason for concern.
To the armies of Israel, it was just another battle in a long line of battles that they would surely win because the Lord was on their side, and if the Lord was on their side how could they lose?
1 Samuel 4:1-2, “And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out to battle against the Philistines, and encamped beside Ebenezer; and the philistines encamped in Aphek. Then the Philistines put themselves in battle array against Israel. And when they joined battle, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand men of the army in the field.”
Being defeated on the field of battle was a new experience for the armies of Israel, and by the Philistines no less who’d had their clocks cleaned by the Israelites more times than they could number. Four thousand men lay in the dust, dead or dying, and as the people came back into the camp they began to question why it was that the Lord had defeated them before the Philistines.
1 Samuel 4:3, “And when the people had come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, ‘Why has the Lord defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord from Shiloh to us, that when it comes among us it may save us from the hand of our enemies.”
They did as they had purposed, they sent for the ark, the ark arrived, and when the ark of the covenant of the Lord came into the camp, all Israel shouted so loudly that the earth shook.
Perhaps they weren’t paying attention in Sunday school class, perhaps they had forgotten the lessons their parents had taught them, but Israel was getting excited over a symbol, when the substance thereof, had long departed. Yes, they shouted, they worked themselves up into a lather, the earth shook, and the Philistines were afraid, but this did not change the outcome of what was about to transpire.
The Philistines knew their enemies well, they knew that the same God that had struck the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness, was the selfsame God that was presently in the camp of the Israelites. What they didn’t know however, what they couldn’t possibly know because the even the elders and the priests hadn’t yet figured it out, is that what they had brought into the camp was nothing more than a fancy box, because the glory of God had departed.
Even though they were afraid, the Philistines knew they had no choice but to go into battle, and after a pep talk of sorts they did just that.
1 Samuel 4:9-11, “Be strong and conduct yourselves like men, you Philistines, that you do not become servants of the Hebrews, as they have been to you. Conduct yourselves like men and fight!’ So the Philistines fought, and Israel was defeated, and every man fled to his tent. There was a very great slaughter, and there fell of Israel thirty thousand foot soldiers. Also the ark of God was captured; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas died.”
By any definition what had just occurred was an unmitigated disaster. It was a catastrophe of epic proportions, made all the more vivid by Israel’s exuberance at seeing the ark of God come into the camp, then losing thirty thousand foot soldiers, on top of the four thousand they’d already lost, the sons of Eli, and the ark itself to the Philistines.
So what brought about this astounding defeat of Israel’s army? What brought this catastrophe upon a people that God Himself called His own? Could they have prevented this from happening? Were there warning signs that what they believed would be an easy victory wouldn’t turn out as such?
Yes, this defeat could have been prevented, yes the warning signs were evident, and if the watchmen had not been distracted by other things, if the watchmen had not stopped watching, perhaps this catastrophe could have been averted.
No, God was not busy with something else; no, God was not on hiatus; no, God hadn’t confused His schedule and forgotten that Israel was about to go to war with the Philistine army, God had departed, because those who were to be His people were acting like anything but, and those who were supposed to uphold the virtues of righteousness and holiness were as defiled as the godless Philistines they thought God would deliver into their hands.
For those with eyes to see the warning signs of impending doom were clear. These signs are just as evident, and clear today, if not more so than they were in the days of old, and once again, only those choose to ignore them can pretend that all is well, and that there is no reason for concern.
So what were these three signs, these three harbingers of doom that were so evident?
The first evident sign, the first harbinger of doom was the decline of the spiritual, or of spirituality, among the people. Preceding this great catastrophe the people had given themselves over to idols, they were worshiping graven images, they had mixed with the people that surrounded them and adopted their traditions, their proclivity for sin, as well as their gods. In essence the people of God had assimilated with those of the world and the outcome was a hideous amalgam of the sacred and the profane, a people who still believed that God was with them even though His glory had long departed their midst.
Even after all these years of studying the Word of God, it still amazes me that although the fear of the Lord had long ceased to exist among them, although reverence for the things of God had long ceased to be evident, although the keeping of God’s statutes had long ceased to be practiced, the people still believed or at least assumed that God was with them, and that they would be victorious over their enemies.
Judges 17:1-3, “Now there was a man from the mountains of Ephraim, whose name was Micah. And he said to his mother, ‘The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from you, and on which you put a curse, even saying it in my ears – here is the silver with me; I took it.’ And his mother said, ‘may you be blessed by the Lord my son!’ So when he had returned the eleven shekels of silver to his mother, his mother said, ‘I had wholly dedicated the silver from my hand to the Lord for my son, to make a carved image and a molded image; now therefore, I will return it to you.’”
This is just one of many examples of how convoluted the people’s thinking had become, how polluted and contaminated their hearts were, how impure and tainted their spiritual lives had come to be, that there was no longer a delineation between the Lord, the one true God, and the idols they were worshiping.
Here is a woman who by her own words had dedicated the silver which she had previously cursed to the Lord, then offers it up that a carved image might be molded from it. Lest we forget the first commandment that God gave to Moses is that the people have no other gods before Him, yet here this woman was having an idol molded of her silver, all the while dedicating it to the Lord. She was doing as unto the Lord, something the Lord hated, and commanded against, yet in her mind it seemed reasonable, and even something worth bragging about.
This is what happens when we attempt to blend, to amalgamate, or to meld the lifestyles, beliefs, traditions, and mindsets of the world with those of the household of faith. No good can come of it. Compromise as the church might, there will be no tolerant and all-inclusive utopia, wherein the perverted, profane, and blasphemous will walk hand in hand with the righteous, the sanctified and the holy. The only thing that will occur is what has occurred in the past. We will become a bane in the sight of God, a stench in His nostrils, and the recipients of His well-deserved wrath.
Another thing that occurs as a direct result of spiritual decline is that the people begin to look for teachers who will tickle their ears, who will not convict them of their sin, and who will not preach the righteousness of God.
Within the same chapter in Judges, there is yet another telling interaction between the man from the mountains of Ephraim named Micah, and a young man from Bethlehem, who was a Levite, and from what the Word tells us, a wanderer of sorts, going from place to place, and residing temporarily wherever he could. As it happened his journeys took him to the mountains of Ephraim, to the house of Micah.
Judges 17:9-10, “And Micah said to him, ‘where do you come from?’ So he said to him, ‘I am a Levite from Bethlehem in Judah, and I am on my way to find a place to sojourn.’ Micah said to him, ‘Dwell with me, and be a father and a priest to me, and I will give you ten shekels of silver per year, a suit of clothes and your sustenance.’ So the Levite went in.”
If it were not so tragic, one would think that the preceding interaction was the beginning of a bad joke.
‘A stranger walks into a house, and the master of the house wants to make him a priest!’
Perhaps there was still some spiritual figure in Micah’s life that spoke the truth to him, perhaps there was still someone who was willing to point out the inconsistencies, so what he did was create and finance his own ‘yes’ man.
‘I’m going to pay you, I’m going to clothe you, I’m going to feed you, you better say what I like to hear, you better tell me I am the apple of God’s eye, and that I am blessed coming and going, and that my cup is going to be pressed down, shaken together and running over. You’d better say soothing things to me, you’d better tell me how good and noble I am, because I’m holding the purse strings buddy, I’m the one paying your way. Just keep that in mind before you go spouting off ‘words from the Lord’.
How, is what is happening today in most churches any different than what Micah did with the young Levite?
‘No, we don’t care if you weren’t called to the ministry, nor do we care that you know nothing of the Word of God, or even the paramount importance of Jesus Christ, or even that Jesus is the only way to salvation, you have the look we’re looking for, you have a great smile, and our polling suggests that you seem trustworthy to senior citizens and women between the ages of thirty five and fifty six. We’ll pay you well, buy you nice suits, get you a mansion for a parsonage, and all you have to do is crack a few jokes, speak in platitudes, avoid controversial topics like hell, or Jesus, or repentance at all cost, and make us feel good about ourselves. If we have a deal, sign on the dotted line.’

Solomon was right; there is nothing new under the sun, just the same old perverted human nature that attempts to supplant God, reinventing the same old schemes and tricks to keep their hearts from being convicted, and one of the best methods of doing this, is knowing that the person who’s supposed to be your spiritual leader is well in your pocket, indebted to you, and so comfortable in his current existence that he would not dare rock the boat.
The second evident sign, the second harbinger of doom and one that one could argue is a direct result of the first, was the decline in morality, or of a moral standard.
We read of the moral decline of Israel in the Word of God, and often times one must stop and wonder if it was truly the people of God that were being described. The sins and immorality that they gave themselves over to would make even the most hardened of souls blush, committing openly, sins that God both abhorred and detested, and still does to this day.
A traveler journeying from Bethlehem to the remote mountains of Ephraim, stopped in a city called Gibeah to lodge for the night. An old man seeing the traveler sitting by himself in the open square, offered him a place to stay, as well as food and drink.
Judges 19:22, “Now as they were enjoying themselves, suddenly certain men of the city, perverted men, surrounded the house and beat on the door. They spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, ‘bring out the man who came to your house, that we may know him carnally!’
The story just gets worse from there, with the man’s concubine being abused until the morning, dying on his threshold and being cut up in twelve pieces, but I think you get the point of the moral decline that Israel found itself in.
Perversion, depravity, sin, all these were arbitrary terms to the people of that time, just as they are to the people of our time, and if it felt good, then they did whatever felt good, and because it felt good, they reasoned to themselves, it couldn’t be wrong or sinful. The pleasures that satisfied today, no longer satisfied tomorrow, and so the appetite for perversion continued to grow until men were surrounding the homes of their neighbors, beating down the doors wanting to do unspeakable things to their guests.
A nation reaches the height of its spiritual and moral decline when the priests, the preachers, the pastors, the elders, those who ought to be the spiritual authorities of the time likewise descend into sin and depravity.
1 Samuel 2:12, “Now the sons of Eli were corrupt; they did not know the Lord.”
Who were the sons of Eli? The sons of Eli were priests in the house of the Lord, those who were to be the mouthpieces of God and bring offerings before Him. Yet they were corrupt, they did not know God, they abused and profiteered off of those who came to bring offering to the Lord, and even lay with the women who assembled at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. Because of them, because of the sons of Eli and their great sin before the Lord, the men abhorred the offering of the Lord.
1 Samuel 2:22-24, “Now Eli was very old; and he heard everything his sons did to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who assembled at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. So he said to them, ‘why do you do such things? For I hear of your evil dealings from all the people. No, my sons! For it is not a good report that I hear. You make the Lord’s people transgress.”
Two chapters later, in 1 Samuel, Israel gets conquered by the Philistines, the ark of God is taken, thirty four thousand soldiers die, as do the sons of Eli, and Eli himself upon hearing of the catastrophe that had befallen the Israelites.
Throughout their descent into lawlessness, throughout their journey from sacred to profane, never once was there a self-analysis, never once did they look at their lives and at the Word of God and point out the inconsistencies therein, as long as the priest left them alone and didn’t bug them about their sin, as long as no one spoke up concerning their fallen state, as long as everyone went along to get along, the people were happy and content, but this did not mean that God was.
They were actually shocked when they lost the first battle, and even more so after losing the second battle to the Philistines. Even as a vanquished people, even as those fleeing from before the armies of the Philistines, I’m certain that some still wondered to themselves what had just happened.
‘But we brought the ark of God in our midst, our victory should have been assured, we should have won this battle, maybe God is losing His touch, maybe the years have taken a toll.’
Men today have the same reaction to hardship and calamity in their life, because well, they went to church once in a while, and they wrote out a check for the ‘special fund’ and the ‘church fund’ they even donated items to goodwill, and now this has happened.
On the surface, superficially, the church of today is doing great. We’re building buildings, building colleges, building universities, building recreation centers, we’re innovators and pioneers in speaking volumes but really saying very little, we’re geniuses at marketing and self-promotion, and through it all we think God is with us, how could He not be, until the day we have to stand and fight and realize that He has long departed.
What many today fail to realize, even many believers I’m sad to say, is that spiritual and moral decline are progressive in nature. Unless a nation actively seeks to stop its descent into sin and depravity, unless a nation actively seeks to change course and return to God, it will continue to fall further and further into the pit because it has no bottom.
‘Well, it’s gotten this bad, but thankfully it can’t get any worse.’
These are actual words I heard passing the lips of a pastor who was lamenting the fact that the church could have done more in preventing the rapid decline of both morality and spirituality in this nation. When I asked how he had come to the conclusion that it couldn’t get any worse, his only response was that he couldn’t think of anything more depraved going on than what was already going on. I shook my head and simply said, ‘then you have no understanding of how evil flesh can truly be.’
Unless God has enough and calamity comes, unless the cup of God’s wrath finally boils over and catastrophe upon catastrophe will begin to be visited upon our shores, mark my words, it can get worse, it will get worse, because sin knows no limits, perversion knows no bounds, and somehow, some way, the unimaginable will become common practice.
The third evident sign, the third harbinger of doom is the decline of social order.
Judges 21:25, “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
When no order exists, chaos is guaranteed. In the twentieth chapter of the book of Judges we are even witness to an all-out civil war, wherein the children of Israel turned against the children of Benjamin and struck them down with the edge of the sword. These were all Israelites, just from different tribes, but because there was no order, because lawlessness abounded, brother turned against brother and unprecedented chaos reigned supreme.
Israel had no king, and as such everyone did what was right in their own eyes. Not having learned the requisite lessons that history would have gladly taught us, it is as it was, and more than ever before everyone is doing what is right in their own eyes.
More often than not one hears the qualifiers ‘I feel’ or ‘I think’ in regards to the Word of God, and most often what we are feeling or thinking is in opposition to the Bible. I’ve said it before, and it is certain that I will say it again, if our feelings or our thoughts on a doctrinal or Biblical matter contradict the Word itself, then we are in open rebellion toward God, worshiping idols of our own making rather than the Christ.
Oddly enough, when people feel a certain way about a given Biblical doctrine, or think a certain way about a certain passage, they are never inclined toward a more sanctified walk, or a greater degree of faithfulness and righteousness, but rather toward a widening of the narrow path of faith.
We cannot do what is right in our own eyes, we must do what is right in God’s eyes, and it is man who must submit to the authority of God, and not the other way around.
Israel refused to repent, Israel refused to live in accordance with the laws of God, yet when it came to it they thought they could force God into defending them, they thought they could force God into protecting them, and they thought they could force God into giving them victory over the Philistines.
‘Let’s bring the ark of God into the camp, surely that will compel God to give us victory over the enemy, it’s His ark, His laws are contained therein, surely because we have brought the ark with us, our victory is assured.’
Unlike man however, God cannot be pressured into doing something against His nature, God cannot be made to overlook sin simply because we carry a trinket with us. He is righteous and holy and altogether just, and He acts and reacts in accordance to His nature.
We fall into our own snare of self-delusion if for one second we believe that we can somehow find a way around repentance and turning our hearts back toward God as a nation. Israel tried, and they failed miserably. They wanted to keep their idols, they wanted to hold onto their sin, they wanted to continue in their rebellion, but also have the protection and provision of God.
A nation in rebellion against God, cannot expect to have His protection! A nation in rebellion against God, cannot expect to have favor in His sight!
‘But we have ‘in God we trust’ on our currency, surely that should count for something.’
Israel had the ark of God in the camp, and they too thought that should count for something. We cannot despise the things of God, we cannot rebel against His will, we cannot declare our independence from Him all the while expecting Him to be like a long suffering grandfatherly type, who just shakes his head, shrugs his shoulders and gives us what we’ve been asking Him for anyway.
When men attempt to remove the justice of God and the righteousness of God from among His attributes, then it is easy for them to conclude that no matter how they dishonor Him, no matter how they marginalize Him, no matter how they bring offense to Him, He must be there, ever willing to give us victory over our enemies because His love will compel Him to do so. The only problem is that although men have attempted to remove these attributes, although they’ve attempted to expunge the notion of God’s justice and God’s righteousness in regards to who He is, and conveniently leave only the love aspect of God intact, God Himself has not changed, nor has He done away with either justice or righteousness.

Psalm 7:11-15, “God is a just judge, and God is angry with the wicked every day. If he does not turn back, He will sharpen His sword; He bends His bow and makes it ready. He also prepares for Himself instruments of death; He makes His arrows into fiery shafts. Behold the wicked travails with iniquity, conceives trouble and brings forth falsehood. He made a pit and dug it out, and has fallen into the ditch which he made.”
So when exactly is God angry with the wicked, is it just once in a while, was it just in the Old Testament days? No, God is angry with the wicked every day, and if the wicked does not turn back, if the wicked does not repent, if the wicked does not humble himself and seek the face of God, then God will sharpen His sword.
Because we have chosen rebellion rather than repentance, because we have chosen iniquity rather than righteousness, because we have hardened our hearts as God called us to turn back to Him, He is sharpening His sword, and bending His bow, and preparing for Himself instruments of death.

The harbingers of doom are evident even to the most obtuse among us, even to those who refuse to believe that God still judges in righteousness, and that His justice is perfect. Although the following might be unpopular, even politically incorrect, it is nevertheless true, we have dug the ditch into which we have fallen with our own hands, and in our rebellion we refuse to acknowledge that there is but one remedy, one way out of the pit, and that is by turning back to God.
Jeremiah 51:9, “We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed. Forsake her, and let us go everyone to his own country; for her judgment reaches to heaven and is lifted up to the skies.”
